Marina Station, based in Cork, is run by Tim O’Donoghue. We recently had a chance to get in touch with Tim and talk about overseeing a busy operation and what’s behind the entrepreneur.

Big Red Cloud:

Tell us about your operation in Marina.

Tim:

We are a Topaz branded, privately owned Filling Station in business for over 12 years. We’re located close to Cork city centre with a busy forecourt, a deli counter and an assisted car wash.

Big Red Cloud:

Customer service must be important, especially when you’re so busy.

Tim:

We pull out the stops everyday for all our customers but sometimes you need to be a counselor offering a sympathetic ear, a tourist guide, a mechanic and you need to offer a smile!

Big Red Cloud:

What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone starting up in business?

Tim:

You need luck! That covers everything from your location, your business idea being a demand one, and that you have customers willing to buy from you.

Big Red Cloud:

Who is your favourite business hero and why?

Tim:

Steve Jobs – for his visionary abilities in invention

Big Red Cloud:

What is your favourite app on your smartphone?

Tim:

Pumps.ie because it gives me the ability to look at the pricing trends in fuel in my local market area as well as national trends

Big Red Cloud:

Your favourite film?

Tim:

The Green Mile – a story of humanity.

Big Red Cloud:

How has Big Red Cloud benefited Marina?

Tim:

It has been a natural progression from Big Red Book with the added advantage of being able to access the accounts anywhere at any time.
