If your business has outgrown basic accounting software, Sage Intacct can look like the obvious next step. But growing companies often become operationally complex long before they become financially complex.

More branches. More stock. More purchasing. More people involved in the same processes. Equipment moving between customers and locations. Service jobs competing for parts. Spreadsheets appearing wherever the existing system stops.

None of that automatically means you need enterprise finance architecture.

If you are looking for an alternative to Sage Intacct in the UK or Ireland, start by asking where the complexity in your business actually sits.

Sage Intacct is a powerful financial management platform. Big Red Cloud + Turbo Inventory takes a different route: Irish accounting and payroll combined with operational software for stock, purchasing, equipment, service, rental and fulfilment.

For the right business, that distinction matters far more than which system has the more sophisticated general ledger.

Intacct starts with complex finance and extends outward.

Big Red Cloud + Turbo combines Irish finance with the operational work that keeps your business moving.

When Sage Intacct makes sense

Intacct comes into its own when your finance function has become genuinely complex.

Think multiple legal entities across jurisdictions, substantial intercompany activity, advanced consolidation, sophisticated revenue recognition, demanding project accounting, complex approval structures and a finance team that wants deep dimensional reporting. Its multi-entity and reporting architecture goes well beyond BRC’s group reporting.

If your team spends days consolidating twenty companies across several countries and currencies, Intacct addresses a problem our suite was not designed to solve.

Business growth alone, however, does not create that requirement.

What if the difficult part is running the business?

Many growing Irish companies have a different problem. Perhaps you have three companies rather than thirty. You trade in euro and sterling. Management wants performance by branch, department, salesperson or job.

Meanwhile, the real friction sits outside the nominal ledger. Stock moves between locations. Purchasing gets harder to control. Equipment goes out to customers and comes back. Workshop jobs consume parts and labour. Sales, service and warehouse teams need the same information. Someone creates another spreadsheet because the accounting system cannot follow the operational process.

You do not have a consolidation problem. You have an operating-business problem.

Big Red Cloud handles the finance, payroll and management-accounting layer. Turbo extends that into the products, equipment, jobs and customer workflows that generate your revenue.

Irish VAT goes beyond the rate table

Sage Intacct now supports Republic of Ireland VAT too. Any comparison suggesting otherwise is out of date.

The important difference lies deeper in the transaction. Big Red Cloud includes workflows for VAT on the moneys-received basis, construction reverse charge, Postponed Accounting, Margin VAT and the preparation of VAT3 and RTD figures.

Take VAT on moneys received. If your business qualifies, you account for sales VAT when you receive payment rather than simply when you raise the invoice. BRC supports that treatment directly, including the relationship between receipts and the underlying transactions.

According to Sage’s current Intacct tax documentation, cash-basis tax capture is currently supported only for France. If your Irish business uses the moneys-received basis, ask Sage or your implementation partner to show you exactly how your existing process will work after migration.

BRC includes dedicated workflows for construction reverse charge, Postponed Accounting and Margin VAT. Intacct gives you a configurable tax framework, but Sage does not currently document equivalent preconfigured Irish workflows for those treatments.

BRC also produces the figures you need to prepare your Irish VAT3 and annual RTD through ROS. BRC is also HMRC MTD compliant. BRC prepares the accounting and reporting behind the return; it does not replace Revenue’s filing system.

Irish payroll follows the same localisation philosophy: BRC keeps Irish accounting and payroll together, while an Intacct implementation will typically connect finance to a separate payroll system. BRC’s UK Payroll is planned for January 2028.

Inventory is only the beginning

Sage Intacct has substantial inventory capability. It can manage multiple warehouses, purchasing, stock, serial and lot tracking and distribution processes. Choosing Turbo simply because you need inventory would therefore miss the point.

The difference becomes clearer when an item moves through the business.

Imagine a piece of equipment arriving into stock. You might sell it or hire it to a customer. A hired unit eventually comes back. It needs inspection, perhaps a repair, and moves into the workshop. Parts and labour go into the job. Once the work is complete, the equipment returns to available stock or goes back to the customer.

Accounting records the financial consequences of that journey. Your operational system has to manage the journey itself.

Turbo is built around those operational flows, including rental, off-hire, workshop and service, project purchasing, stock movement and trade-counter activity. That makes it especially relevant where products and equipment pass through several stages before revenue is earned.

Projects show the same difference. Intacct is stronger when you need sophisticated financial project accounting: time, expenses, billing, revenue recognition and financial project profitability. Turbo is more directly suited to purchasing materials for jobs, consuming stock against projects and managing the operational work around them.

The question is not whether one system “does projects”.

It is what you need your project system to do.

Do you need enterprise reporting, or better answers?

Intacct has the deeper financial reporting platform. For a CFO managing many entities, business units and dimensions, that depth can be extremely valuable.

BRC takes a more direct approach to management information. You can analyse accounts using categories and user-defined fields, report across companies, drill into transactions and use RED AI to interrogate your accounting data. Turbo adds the operational picture around stock, sales, purchasing, jobs and workflow.

For many management teams, the questions are practical:

  • Which branch made money?
  • What stock do we have, and where is it?
  • Which jobs are profitable?
  • Which customers owe us?
  • What equipment is out on hire?
  • What is waiting in the workshop?
  • How did our companies perform together?
  • What needs purchasing?
  • Why has this cost increased?

You may not need enterprise reporting architecture to answer them well.

Implementation and total cost

Full Sage Intacct normally comes with an implementation project. Entities, dimensions, approvals, reporting, integrations and controls all need to match the organisation using it.

Big Red Cloud + Turbo follows a different commercial model. Big Red Cloud accounting starts at €60 per company per month and includes the core accounting functionality, unlimited accounting users, support and training. Turbo is typically priced from €250 – €400 per month. If you genuinely need Intacct’s finance architecture, paying more for it can make perfect sense.

If you mainly need stronger Irish accounting alongside better control of purchasing, stock, equipment, service or rental, both the cost and the implementation effort can look very different.

Sage Intacct or Big Red Cloud + Turbo?

The right choice depends less on how large your business has become than on what has become difficult to manage.

  • If your main challenge is sophisticated group finance, intercompany accounting, advanced consolidation, specialist revenue recognition or deep financial controls, Sage Intacct may be the stronger fit.
  • If your main challenge is running an operationally complex Irish business while keeping finance, payroll, VAT and management reporting proportionate, Big Red Cloud + Turbo deserves a serious look.
  • If both your finance function and your operations are complex, compare the two architectures carefully and look at which workflows would still need another system around the core platform.

Before you choose your next platform, ask: What has actually become difficult in your business?

Show us the workflows that are pushing you towards Intacct. We will show you where Big Red Cloud fits, where Turbo can take you further and, if your requirements genuinely call for a more complex finance platform, we will tell you that too.
